Terms of Service

Last updated: July 28, 2026

These terms govern your use of the TrainU website, mobile app, and Leagues organizer tools. By creating an account or booking a session, you agree to them. Questions: support@trytrainu.com.

What TrainU is

TrainU is a marketplace. We connect athletes and their parents with independent sports trainers, and we provide software for organizations running leagues.

TrainU does not provide coaching or training services. Trainers on TrainU are independent third parties, not our employees or agents. We do not set their instruction, methods, or schedules, and we are not responsible for the quality or outcome of any session. Any agreement to train is between you and the trainer.

Eligibility and minors

You must be at least 18 to create an account, and we ask for your date of birth at sign up to confirm it. TrainU is used for youth sports, and sessions may be offered for age groups that include children. If the athlete is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must hold the account, book on the athlete’s behalf, and accept these terms for them.

Managed athletes. A parent or guardian adds each athlete they book for to their own account as a managed athlete. A managed athlete has no login, does not appear in search, and cannot be messaged — the guardian holds the account, and every booking, payment, credit, and message runs through it. You remain responsible for everything done on your account, including sessions booked for an athlete you manage.

Adding an athlete means confirming that you are 18 or older, that you are that athlete’s parent or legal guardian, and that the information you enter about them — date of birth, emergency contact, and any allergy or medical notes — is accurate and yours to give us. Keep it current: trainers rely on it during sessions, and it is the only safety information they have.

By booking, you agree that the trainer running that session may view the athlete’s emergency contact and medical notes for it. Only trainers with a paid booking for that athlete can do so, every such view is recorded, and you can ask us for that record. You can remove an athlete from your account once their upcoming sessions are cancelled or finished, which clears that information. How we handle it is set out in our Privacy Policy.

Your account

Keep your login credentials secure and give us accurate information. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at support@trytrainu.com if you believe it has been used without your permission.

Booking, credits, and cancellations

  • Booking. When you book, you authorize the charge shown at checkout. Your spot is held only once payment succeeds — if the card is declined, the spot is released and you are not charged.
  • Session credits. Packages grant credits for use with the trainer you bought them from. Credits are not transferable between trainers, have no cash value, and expire after the period shown at purchase.
  • Cancellations. Cancelling before the cancellation window shown on the session refunds your payment or returns your credit. Cancelling inside the window may not be refundable, because the trainer has reserved that time.
  • Trainer cancellations. If a trainer cancels a session, or removes you from one, you are refunded in full regardless of timing.
  • Subscriptions. Recurring plans renew automatically and grant credits each billing cycle until cancelled. Cancelling stops future charges; credits already granted remain yours until they expire.

For trainers

  • You are independent. You set your own prices, availability, and methods. Nothing here creates an employment, partnership, or agency relationship with TrainU.
  • Payouts.Payments are processed by Stripe. To accept payments you must complete Stripe’s onboarding and agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement. Payout timing is governed by Stripe.
  • Fees. TrainU charges a service fee to the athlete and a commission on your earnings. Both are disclosed at checkout and in your payout settings before any money moves. We will give notice before changing them.
  • Taxes. You are responsible for your own taxes on income earned through TrainU.
  • Athlete safety information.Where an athlete is a minor, their emergency contact and medical notes are hidden until you reveal them, and you can only do that for an athlete you have a paid booking with. Use what you see solely to run and respond to that session. Do not copy it elsewhere, share it, or use it for anything else. Every reveal is recorded and available to the athlete’s parent or guardian.
  • Your obligations. You are responsible for holding any certifications, licenses, insurance, and background checks required for your work, and for complying with all laws that apply to coaching minors.

Leagues

Organizations using TrainU Leagues pay for a plan or per-league access as shown at checkout. Organizations are responsible for their own events, participants, refunds, and communications. Registration fees collected from participants are paid out to the organization through Stripe, less the fees disclosed at checkout.

Single-event purchasescover one league with an event window of up to three months, measured from the event's start date to its end date. When that window closes, the league becomes read-only: registrations and scoring stop, while rosters, registrations, and payment records remain available to view and export indefinitely. Annual plans are not limited by event duration.

Event messages and texts

Organizations can send participants messages about a league they registered for — schedule changes, cancellations, and reminders. These are service messages about your registration, not marketing.

Text messages are opt-in. We only text you if you check the box when registering. Message and data rates may apply, frequency varies by event, and you can stop at any time by replying STOP. Opting out of texts does not affect your registration — we will still email you anything important about the event. Consent to receive texts is never a condition of registering.

Messages are sent by TrainU on the organization's behalf and identify the organization as the sender. Organizations are responsible for the content of what they send.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use TrainU for anything unlawful, or to harass, endanger, or exploit anyone — particularly minors.
  • Misrepresent your identity, credentials, or affiliation.
  • Arrange payment outside TrainU to avoid fees for sessions found through the platform.
  • Scrape, disrupt, reverse engineer, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service.
  • Post content you do not have the right to share.

You keep ownership of content you upload. You grant TrainU a licence to host and display it as needed to operate the service — for example, showing your intro video on your profile.

Assumption of risk

Physical training carries an inherent risk of injury. By booking a session you acknowledge that risk and accept it on your own behalf, or on behalf of the athlete you are booking for. Consult a physician before beginning any training programme. TrainU does not supervise sessions and is not responsible for injuries that occur during them.

Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and we do not warrant the qualifications, conduct, or results of any trainer or organization. We verify only what is described in the app, and a badge or listing is not an endorsement.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TrainU is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid through TrainU in the twelve months before the claim arose. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they apply only as far as the law permits.

Termination

You may stop using TrainU and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms or creates risk for other users. Outstanding payment and payout obligations survive termination.

Changes

We may update these terms and will revise the date above. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email. Continuing to use TrainU after a change means you accept the updated terms.
